Dr. Eóin Tiernan is an Associate Clinical Professor at UCD School of Medicine, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and numerous successful research grants secured. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a trainer on the ICHMT Higher Specialist Training Scheme for Palliative Medicine.

Dr Tiernan’s particular interests include broadening the scope of palliative medicine to encourage referral earlier in a patient’s cancer or non-cancer diagnosis, the safe and effective use of opioids for cancer and non-cancer pain management, novel integrative digital solutions for assessment and management of pain and symptoms in chronic pain, supportive and palliative medicine, and closer integration of care between hospital and community. These interests are reflected in his academic research activities.
